My first week!
It's been a week now. We had a week on introduction to the school and the staff. It was a really good time getting to know all of my classmates and all of the other people on the base. Everyone is so friendly. It's really funny because everyone had heard about me before i came here and i recognized they're names, and now we're getting to know eachother really well, it's alot of fun! So in this first week of school we have just been learning the basics about BIBLICAL FOUNDATIONS IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT! We learned about people's needs, and that people are more open to hearing the good news when they have their primary needs, such as food and water, met. We had a bunch of different speakers from different organizations in Jamaica come and speak to us about what their organization was about. It was super interesting. And i am really confident that I will be doing the Teachers for the Nations Jamaica school this September, which will be another step in my life towards working with children who are less fortunate. Some people from that school came yesterday and told us about it, and as they told us about it i got quite excited. After this 3 month classroom phase there is an optional 3 month outreach phase (just like when i went to Kenya with the last school, only it wasnt optional that time) and so far i don't think that i will be doing that. But it's still in God's hands! He will direct me where to go and what to do. I'm really excited to hear about what the speakers next week will be talking about. We will have different speakers every week, just like my last school (DTS), but this time it will be about transforming communities. I will let you know about all that i learn. I also have homework, i have a journal to write, and books to read, and reports to do. I'm reading the first book right now which is 284 pages, and i was given 2 weeks to read it, and im a slow reader!!! Plus the book isn't very interesting. But i'll get through it! Things with my boyfriend are great as well. I'm super happy to be here! Ill continue to keep you updated!
Love you all, and i miss you!
Kristen
